Pierre’s own journey into musical theater is unexpected. With a background in finance and technology—not the arts—he initially encountered the project almost by accident. But after seeing the production in Lourdes, he was struck by how faithfully it portrayed the real words, struggles, and courage of Saint Bernadette. Rather than dramatizing miracles or preaching belief, the musical stays grounded in historical records and eyewitness testimony, allowing audiences to encounter Bernadette as a real teenager facing pressure, doubt, and opposition.
That creative choice has made all the difference. In France, the show received praise not only from Catholic media but also from secular critics, who described it as a story of conscience, courage, and truth. By focusing on Bernadette’s humanity rather than spectacle, the production invites reflection without forcing conclusions—what Pierre describes as opening “a door before the supernatural.”
For parishes and diocesan leaders, Pierre sees Bernadette the Musical as a unique opportunity for pre-evangelization. Inviting a neighbor to Mass can feel intimidating; inviting them to a beautiful musical rooted in history and human experience is often much easier. As the North American tour begins in Chicago this February, Pierre encourages parishes to help spread the word—through parish bulletins, posters, group outings, and simple conversations.
At its core, Bernadette the Musical echoes Bernadette’s own words: “I was asked to tell you, not to convince you.” It’s a reminder that faithful witness, honest storytelling, and beauty still have the power to move hearts today.
